Contemplating  movement  through shapes & forms set in motion.

Crossing paths that recompose their sum total - drawing new contours with each step.

Much like a Kaleidoscope re- arranging its content, forcing the spectator to examine a new formation with each turn it takes - creating a unique language of esthetics that derives from the very basic shapes fed to its database.

Choreography of Use|B.A. Thesis

How did it start? I longed for objects around me to do more, to inspire more. Imagining furniture that surround us performing in an unexpected manner, transforming their shapes and impact in the room, moving in between use configuration.
In short, leveling the playing field of design and bridging between simple everyday objects that we use the and more exciting daring objects of desire like sport cars.

In fact, my guideline for beginning the project was designing exactly that. Taking for example the design of a sports car's doors that slide upward instead of just opening up regularly. By a simple change of the motion we're used to, the user experience changes, alongside the grid and shapes of the car itself. So why couldn't a cabinet door do the same?

Coming to terms.  During some research I stumbled across an article describing the special nature of (dance) choreography design. The main fact being that designing motion can only be planned to a point - a chosen figure is set on a specific path from which the shapes and form continue to transform on their own - resulting in an unexpected outcome of compositions.

And so, I started placing my own shapes, patterns and grids in motion. Dissecting them into several parts, overlaying them on top of one another, and let myself be surprised by the new junctions created by motion.

Setting shapes and even text in motion, directing their paths and reconstructing them.

Realizing that motion perception and expression is in fact freezing a moment and exposing the sequence of motion of shapes and forms. Trying to design with the different approaches and sticking to a format :

Accumulating, cataloging & assessing - Eventually forming my own cataloge of possibilites. Cataloge of motions.: (flip through!)

Zooming in on combinations and junctions between shapes that were surprising:

Incorporating graphic patterns onto 3d objecs. Reaching the final stage of the project - Using my cataloge as samples that can be dressed onto an object , transforming the pattern according to the structure and curves of the object, and creating a surprising structure and an esthetic language.

Reinterpreting. Taking another look at a pattern, reexamining it, sectioning it and rediscovering its playing parts. Translating it into 3D forms that are put into motion - streching new patterns with motion.

Patterned Objects in Motion. Testing out different patterns and watching them move and transform with use and motion. re-inventing the patterns as they move, A family of objects with intriguing, illusive experiece of esthetics.
